Digital Inclusion WikiConnect – A Successful 2nd Intake Launch with Freddie Quek in Person!

Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming a new group of participants to the Digital Inclusion WikiConnect project at the University of St Andrews. This unique initiative aims to empower staff and students to contribute to Wikipedia while tackling digital poverty. Hosted at the School of Physics and Astronomy, the event ran from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm and featured hands-on workshops to develop wiki-editing skills, ensuring that participants can actively shape the world’s largest open-access platform.

After a brilliant hybrid Wiki training from Dr Kirsty Ross, the highlight of today’s session was having Freddie Quek, a leading voice in digital inclusion and the founder of the #joiningthedots initiative, join us in person. Freddie’s contributions to closing the digital divide on a national scale are inspiring, and his presence added great value to the discussions. His insights into the current challenges in digital literacy and social equity were both motivating and thought-provoking for all attendees.

Supported by the IDEA Network, the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Fund, and the School of Computer Science, this project provides participants with the tools and guidance to make a real impact. Whether it’s through creating or editing articles that address digital poverty or topics of personal expertise, the Digital Inclusion WikiConnect project is helping bridge the digital divide and promote inclusive knowledge sharing.
We look forward to seeing the contributions of this new intake over the coming weeks and celebrating their achievements at the final event on 27th November!
